Filming: Part II

Actor: Sabrina
Location/s: House (2373/3) - bedroom
Yesterday, I started filming with my main actress, Sabrina, and we managed to get all of the shots done in this shooting session, except for the ones including the male counterpart.

To begin with, Sabrina and I filmed all of the shots that would appear towards the end of the film opening, because I started filming at around 4:30pm, so the sun was still up and the light coming from the window was still fairly bright. We decided to film these shots on the same day, rather than film it another day, because we had plenty of time, and after I filmed this shot, I would go straight into filming the remaining shots.

I had to re-film this particular shot multiple times, because it is a one-shot, it was either too shaky, or out of focus. A problem that occurred with my camera was that it stayed in focus throughout the shot, but when I had to pan up to reveal Sabrina's face, it did not want to focus. Therefore, I borrowed Gabrielle's camera because it was able to focus on Sabrina's face. Moreover, I planned on using a dolly to make the movement smoother, but I decided not to because the tiles were not smooth.

For my film opening, I wanted Sabrina to wear a flow-y white nightgown, but she did not own one so she used her long black dress instead. Initially, I wanted to use a white nightgown because it is a common convention in horror movies, and it would make her appear "innocent", although she is completely insane. However, after filming the shots of Sabrina wearing the black dress, I preferred it over the white nightgown, because it makes the character appear more sinister as oppose to her wearing white.

Afterwards, I added make up on Sabrina and slightly messed up her hair. I drew inspiration from a character in the psychological horror film: Carrie (dir. Kimberly Price, 2013, USA) Margaret White, Carrie's deeply religious and deranged mother who wears a white nightgown and has unkempt hair, making her look creepy and crazy. For Sabrina's makeup, I kept it simple and focused primarily on her eyes, giving her deep eyes bags, to give the impression that she has not been able to sleep (due to her "seeing" things in the wallpaper, and thus leading to her madness).

I have finished filming all of the shots with Sabrina's character, and I have yet to film the ones including Sean. Next week, I plan to film again. After I looked through the clips I shot with Sabrina, I found that some were out of focus and will need to be filmed again. Furthermore, I was unable to install the torn wallpaper, so I will need to re-do the clips where the wallpaper is shown in some of Sabrina's shots, as the wallpaper is an important aspect to show the female character's insanity. As well as this, I will need to re-do the close up shots of the wallpaper after I have put it up.

  1. It's good that you have referred to a character, as this makes it an easy base for inspiration and the kind of appearance you want to give for your target audience. Good Job.
