Opening Sequence: Part I

Over the last two lessons, we watched the opening credits of Napoleon Dynamite (US, HESS, 2004), and analysed the extract closely. Our first task was to think about the meaning created and how it was encoded through camera shots/angles/movements, sound, editing and mise-en-scene and then write an analysis on it.

TASK
Our current project is to work as part of a team to storyboard, film and edit an opening sequence in the style of Napoleon Dynamite.
In our groups we decided that these people are responsible for managing certain areas in the production of our film:
Director: Abu
Camera: Amna
Editor: Rica
Artistic director: Props/Set Design: Adriana and Lujane

As well as this, our remake must:
- have the same amount of shots
- have the same angles and transitions
- be two minutes maximum
- represent a particular group of people

After discussing what we wanted our opening sequence to be based on, our group decided that our remake would be based around a female protagonist living in the Middle East.
Before we proceeded with filming, we were told about Guild Rules. These are used to determine the order of which the titles in the opening credits are to appear in:

1. The Production Company presents - include LOGO if you have one.
2. A .... production - A PARRY PRODUCTION
3. A .... film - A BENNETT FILM
4. Title
5. Lead Cast
6. Supporting Cast
7. Casting Director
8. Music Composer
9. Costume Designer
10. Associate Producer
11. Editor
12. Production Designer
13. Director of Photography
14. Editor
15. Producer
16. Writer
17. Director
